Continued: According to her obituary Sally was the mother of 5 children; the three still living at the time of her death. They were Chauncy (living in southern Texas) Solon (with whom she was living), and Stephen who was living in Palo Alto County, Iowa. The two youngest children died young. It was written that she claimed all her life to be a Christian, but it was not known whether she identified with any church. (The marriage of her son Solon was in the Bolton, Quebec Methodist Church). For a period of time researchers have seemed relatively sure that a Stephen Place was the father of Sally Place, but the identity of her mother has been elusive. There is a growing likelihood that Mary (Polly) Camber is her biological mother (possibly a step mother). This has been discussed at length in various message board postings. Tony Elbridge who lives in the Brome County area is convinced from land records and a Brown Co. history from Jay, Vermont that Stephen Place's first wife was indeed Polly Camber. She apparently is the mother of Benjamin, Stephen and Sarah (Sally). A wife Betsey is apparently the mother of the others. The 3rd wife was said to be Hannah Magoon, but John Folsom concluded she was actually the wife of the next generation Stephen Place. As of June 2017 there is evidence that Sally, Benjamin and Stephen Place lll are connected by DNA, supporting the theory they are all children of at least the same father Stephen Place and possibly of Stephen Place and Mary (Polly) Camber. Hopefully, there will be more DNA evidence in the future. *** Yet another Stephen Place b. 1813 who married Sarah Partlow in Stanstead, Quebec shows DNA links to the Scheffler/Sutherland project. Janna Leventon has a match at the good level. One wonders how he is related to this family.
