Notes
a. Continued:   According to Hugh Banfill, Benjamin Banfill (1786-1841) farmed near Topsham Four Corners from 1810-1826. He is mentioned in some deeds as being from Bradford, which is evidently close to Topsham and Corinth. In 1997 Topsham Four Corners is very rural and isolated -- only a few farm houses among a wide expanse of land.
The births of Benjamin's 5 older siblings are in the Vermont Vital Records on microfilm but Benjamin and the four younger children are not. However, the family Bible page found in his father's Revolutionary pension file (W17,244) lists all the children. Benjamin is listed as head of a household in the 1820 Vermont Census (Topsham).
Benjamin Banfill and family moved to Potton in Brome County Quebec about 1827. He was mentioned in Taylor's History of Brome County. His death record was found in Bolton Methodist Church records, Potton Circuit, page F3.
Per Vermont Warnings Out Benjamin and family were warned out 12 Jan 1815 -- I cannot tell for sure if this is the correct Benjamin Banfill family.
b. Note:   ebec had records of Benjamin's death and baptisms of some of the children. Records of some years are missing, apparently Sarah's death among them. Sarah's first husband was Samuel Hall. She settled in Compton, Township until 1807 after the death of Samuel. A deed from Compton Twp, Quebec in 1839 lists Sarah Mills as the lawful wife of Benjamin Banfill.
An attempt was made to locate the marriage record of Sarah and Benjamin in Corinth, VT using the name Sarah Mills. This was before I knew of Sarah's first marriage to Samuel Hall. It seemed odd there was no record for Sarah Mills and Benjamin Banfill since several sources had the exact date and had noted such a record. A reexamination of the vital records of Vermont on microfilm yielded a card listing the marriage of Sally Hall and Benjamin Banfill. The marriage to Samuel Hall was documented in Newbury, VT and the one to Benjamin in Orange, VT. Sarah is listed as Sally on the records of some of the children's births as well as on her marriage records.
