Notes
a. Continued:   Sarah Mills, daughter of John Mills, Jr. and Elizabeth McDuffie was born at Newbury, VT. At age 18 she married Samuel Hall at Newbury. By age 20 she was on a land grant of 200 acres in Compton, Quebec on the bank of the Coaticook River. Her first two children Almira born in 1804 and Melissa born in 1805 were born in Compton. In 1807 her husband Samuel Hall died in Compton and Sarah, who was pregnant, returned to Newbury in Orange Co. Vermont and had her third child, a son Samuel Hall on 8 Oct 1807
The History of Newbury appears to connect Sarah to John Mills, Sr. instead of John Mills, Jr. as listed in the Corinth, VT official birth records.
b. Note:   Hugh M. Banfill believes Sarah died ca 1838.
c. Note:   ebec had records of Benjamin's death and baptisms of some of the children. Records of some years are missing, apparently Sarah's death among them. Sarah's first husband was Samuel Hall. She settled in Compton, Township until 1807 after the death of Samuel. A deed from Compton Twp, Quebec in 1839 lists Sarah Mills as the lawful wife of Benjamin Banfill.
An attempt was made to locate the marriage record of Sarah and Benjamin in Corinth, VT using the name Sarah Mills. This was before I knew of Sarah's first marriage to Samuel Hall. It seemed odd there was no record for Sarah Mills and Benjamin Banfill since several sources had the exact date and had noted such a record. A reexamination of the vital records of Vermont on microfilm yielded a card listing the marriage of Sally Hall and Benjamin Banfill. The marriage to Samuel Hall was documented in Newbury, VT and the one to Benjamin in Orange, VT. Sarah is listed as Sally on the records of some of the children's births as well as on her marriage records.
