Note: as the one given the responsibility to care for her ailing mother. Ethel lived with her mother and cared for her at home for several years prior to her mother's death. Ethel was active in a Presbyterian Church in Portland and for a number of years did volunteer work on the church newsletter. Cause of death was listed on death certificate as congestive heart failure. In the 1950's Ethel would take the train to Tacoma, Washington to visit her nephew George Perrine Sutherland and his children, her grand nieces and nephews. They enjoyed her visits and also looked forward to the Easter candy she and her sister was send from Portland at Easter time.
