Notes
a. Continued:   Dana Perrine was a difficult person to trace. Finally when I found Fanny Smalley, daughter of Isaac Sayre Smalley and Cornelia Parrott that I believed to be his wife located in Allegany Co. NY, I began to look in that vicinity for Dana and family. He was finally located living with his parents and two brothers (James and Lewis) in the Cuba 1855 NYS census, where his name is written "Daney" . If Dana is pronounced with a long "a", the census taker likely heard it as Daney. In the Perrine genealogy he was listed as Dany. The spelling of his name was Pryne in the 1880 Kinderhook census.
Dana Perrine was a Civil War Veteran. He was a private in J Company of the Branch Infantry and served from 17 Oct 1764 to 13 August 1765. The 11th census 1890 of Surviving soldiers, sailors, and marines, etc. indicated he incurred a disability -- "disease of right leg; left leg afflicted also". His daughter Mabel indicated he was married from Wellsville, PA and went to MI, but may have been married in Wellsville, Allegany, NY as the Smalleys were found in that county and son William Dana was born in 1860 in NYS. Son Charles was born in 1865 in Michigan.
Per an article in the 7 Feb 1879 Coldwater Republican, Dana Perrine erected a stone house on his farm south of Silver Lake, valued at $4000 in 1879. The same article indicated " he commenced with a capital of $540 and in 1879 had a farm valued at $70 per acre upon which he has a $4000 house." The same article also indicated in error that Dana came from Albany Co., NY.
b. Continued:   1870 Census indicated birth place New York.
c. Continued:   Per his obituary his funeral was held at his late home. He had an illness of two months, the last four weeks of which he was confined to his bed. Few details were listed on the death certificate.
d. Continued:   Mabel Sutherland recoded the marriage place for Fanny as Wellsville, Allegheny, PA. However, it appears more likely that it was Wellsville, Allegany, NY. It appears that Wirt was about 8 miles from Wellsville, NY. The Isaac Sayre Smalley lived by 1825 in Wirt, NY.
e. Continued:   Per Mr. Bruce Richardson the marriage is recorded at Coldwater, Branch, Michigan, Book G, page 155, line 2309. E. J. Howes was the clergyman. Witnesses were Lucius Waterhouse, Emily Waterhouse, both of Kinderhook. Hannah was said to be age 67 at the time of the marriage. However, that would have made her 10 when she married her first husband Orton Hoxie 16 Oct 1842.
