Note: ***** This is simply a compilation of a number of researchers who have ventured across the Atlantic looking for a connection to the Waldrop family in America. There may come a time that this information is useful to someone. It is of no use to us at this time because we have not established for certain when, where or who traveled across the Atlantic Ocean to establish our family. We do believe we have some of the family traced back to the late 1600s, but for most of the Waldrops and Wardrops our evidence ends in the mid to late 1700s. So, we have a long way to go before any of the information here is of any use to us. We save it, nonetheless. ***** Note - In 1642, William Waldrop, then of the Isle of Nevis (in the Caribbean), "forgave" the mortgage of a tobacco venturer's widow who lived in Virginia. Note - The office of the Royal Governor of Virginia confiscated a sloop belonging to James Waldrop for by-passing what we now call "Customs" when selling tobacco in Virginia. Note - Shortly before 1776, the Virginia Gazette at Williamsburg, Virginia carried notice after notice of various Waldrops announcing their departure for Britian. Many of these, evidently, were from Charles City County, Virginia. Note - There were no Waldrops on the 1779 Tax List of Orange County, NC, nor were there Waldrops listed as Grantor/Grantee in Deed Indexes nor were there any references to Waldrops in the Estate Records. ********** Emigrants from Scotland to America 1774-1775" by Viola Root Cameron shows John Wardrobe age 30 New York, NY. 1774 1088 page 96 Emigrants from Scotland to America 1774-1775" by Viola Root Cameron shows James Wardrop age 26, St. John Island 1775 1088 page 96 Emigrants from Scotland to America 1774-1775" by Viola Root Cameron shows Elenor Wardrope (see Wardrope Jos.)
