Note: ***** Jamestown was settled in what became York Co., VA in 1607. New Kent Co., VA was created from York Co.,VA in 1654 by William Claiborne. King and Queen Co., VA was created from New Kent Co., VA in 1691. King William Co., VA was created from King and Queen Co., VA in 1702. Hanover Co., VA was created from New Kent Co., VA (St. Paul's Parish) in 1719. Caroline Co., VA was created from King William and King and Queen Co's., VA in 1728. Charles City Co. or shire was part of the Jamestown (1607) Colony, west of the James River. Prince George Co., VA was created from Charles City Co., VA in 1703. Brunswick Co., VA was created form Prince George Co., VA in 1720. Amelia Co., VA was created from Brunswick and Prince George Co's., VA in 1734. Orange Co., VA was created in 1734 and ran west from the established counties to the Mississippi River. A little knowledge of the creation of the counties of VA helps make it reasonable to believe that Michael Wardrope of York Co., VA in 1672 could certainly be the Michael Wardrope that Wm. Claiborne cashed the headright in for in New Kent Co., VA in 1782. This same Michael Wardrope or his son could be the recepient of the Fisher Miller grant (1699-1713) and the headright for transporting two men in King William Co., VA in 1712. Knowledge of the creation of VA counties also makes it reasonable to believe the four Waldrop men we find in VA in the 1730s and 1740s were at least kinsmen, if not brothers. The fact that James Waldrop was in Caroline Co., VA in 1734; Luke Waldrop in Hanover Co., VA in 1734; Joseph in Amelia Co., VA in 1835; and Michael Waldrop, King William Co., then Orange Co., VA doesn't necessairly make them strangers. As stated before, because we are working here with an imaginary Michael, created by David P. Smith, we have, for ease of access carried the imagining a step farther and create a family. We have no evidence that these people were related, except the surname. A few years after David's death, the Waldrop DNA Project was started at ftdna.com. With few exceptions, Waldrops in this country descend either from the Waldrops of Laurens, Newberry or Spartanburg Co's., SC or from James Wardrope, who died in Wake Co., NC in 1790. Considering that a non-paternal event would change the looks of any family, it is not difficult to believe that all Waldrops, Wardrops, Waldrips, Waldreps, etc. in this country are related. In many ways, the Waldrop DNA project has strengthened what researchers have concluded based on circumstantial evidence and suppositions. DNA results connect Joseph of Amelia Co., VA; John and James of Amelia and Pittsylvania Co., VA; Samuel of Louisa Co., VA and Luke of Granville Co., NC to one another. If related in this country, Michael is the best choice for "common ancestor". In fact, he may be the only choice. With the "Old Guard" dying or burning out and the internet corrupting Waldrop lineages beyond anyone's imagination, the task of proving our ancestry becomes more and more difficult. But, patience and perservance will prevail, either in this generation or the next or the next. I cannot stress enough that this MICHAEL II AND THE LIST OF HIS CHILDREN IS THEORETICAL IN NATURE AND INTENT. DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CALL THIS FACT. *****
