He spent one year as a combat rifleman in Vietnam and the remainder of his service time in Germany as a broadcaster on Armed Forces Radio. After military service he joined Wheel Horse Corporation as a salesman. He rapidly rose to the position of national parts and service manager. Wheel Horse was purchased by Toro Corporation and Stephen maintained the same position under the new owners. He died suddenly on 26 Dec 1989. He had three children: Allison Rebecca, Stephen H. and Kathryn. Was married to Pamela Mae Horton.
