was the son of Elijah Alexander Holt and Sarah Elizabeth Hagey Holt.
Alexander Holt was professor of Latin and Greek at Ad-Ran College (now Texas
Christian University). He named two of his sons Addison and Randolph. They
went through life beilng called Add and Ran respectively. Addison received
his early education in Texas. The family moved to Nodaway Co. Missouri where
Alexanders parents, Mr. and Mrs Jackson Madison Holt resided. Addison engaged
in agricultural pursuits. At the age of 20 yrs. he married Jean Elena Kemp,
daughter of Stephen Henry Kemp and Anna Ross Kemp, at Maryville, Mo. on 28 Jan
1904. Shortly thereafter they moved to Carpenter, Wyoming where they
homesteaded. Two children were born while they resided in Wyoming though both
were born in Maryville, Mo. They were Helen Elena Holt and Harold Clark Holt.
Shortly thereafter, in 1912, they returned to Nodaway Co. Mo. and engaged in
farming near Graham, Mo. Four additional children resulted from this union:
Haldene Kemp Holt born 19 Dec 1918, Stephen Hollis Holt born 7 April 1919,
George Robert Holt born 10 Aug 1921, and Ralyn Wayne Holt born 5 Aug 1923.
The last three, Steve, Bob, and Ray are alive and well at this writing (1995).
Mr. Holt continued farming at Graham, Mo. until 1921 when the economic crash
resulted in the loss of all of his assets. He continued farming until the
great depression of the late twenties and thirties resulted in no market for
farm products and no jobs in other fields. It became necessary to give up
farming and seek employment elswhere. The family moved to Springfield, Mo.
There he was fortunate for the times, and found a job in a small resturant as
a fry cook. During the next years of his life, he developed into an unusual
chef with an exceptional ability to create delightful and tasty dishes. The
greater part of Mr. Holt's life as a cook was spent in Springfield, Mo. Upon
retirement he returned to Maryville, Mo.. where he died on 6 Jan 1969. He is
buried in the Miriam cemetery in Maryville.
