  William Parker Miller enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in Louisville, KY. on Oct. 1, 1942. He embarked on board the USS Calvert on Aug. 24 1943. Sailed from Norfolk, VA and arrived at San Diego, CA on Sept. 9, 1943. Saw action in the Pacific theater from Jan 13, 1944 to Oct 15, 1945. Participated in the battles of Rio, Namur, Kwajalein Atoll, Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinian, Mariana Islands and Iwo Jima. Wounded in action on Mar 8 1945, in the battle of Iwo Jima, on left side of back by schrapnel. He received the purple heart for his wounds in action. He also received the Asiatic-Pacific medal with 4 stars, the America Theatre medal, the PUC medal with 2 stars World War II Victory medal and the Navy Unit Citation medal.
