  Buried with many children in HOOD CEMETERY RURAL
 ROAD 1215 that leads from the OLD GRANTHAM ROAD
 to HIGHWAY 13, about 2 miles northeast of GRANTHAM
 SCHOOL.

 ATLANTIS CHRISTIAN COLLEGE at WILSON, N.C. children
 and several grandchildren recorded in FAMILY BIBLE
  Letter to Bertha Hood Smith dated 22 Jan 1964 from Willis S. Hood
 John R. Hood, Sr, and Dizy Grantham were married December 27th, 1827
 Helped organize the Falling Creek Methodist Church and was one of the first
 trustees. His son Solomon was also a charter member and served as a trustee
 member of the board of Sewards, and Sunday School Superintendent. Willis
 Hood (Solomon's son) says; In those days we didn't have a preacher but once
 a month our home was where the preacher stayed. He lived at Mt. Olive and
 preached at Mt. Olive, Providence, Falling Creek, Rhones Chapel, Indian
 Springs, Smiths Chapel, and I think one or two more. Our church gave him
 $100.00 a year and gave him hams, eggs, hens, butter and other things we had
 on the farm. When Mother & Father went to Church they rode in a one horse
 Jersey wagon, we did not have a buggy.

 All seven sons of John Robert Hood served in the Civil War.Moores' Roster
 shows that five of them - Solomon, Edward, Robert, Nathan, and William -
 enlisted in Company F of the 10th N.C. Artillery Regiment, in July , 1861.
 According to Clark's History of N.C. Regiments, Ezekiel Hood was second
 lieutenant in the 10th Regiment, which undertook to defend Fort Macon.
 There is no record for John R. Hood, Jr.
 Solomon Hood was captured in the fall of Fort Macon in April, 1862, and
 imprisoned on Harker's Island but later was exchanged and returned to his
 regiment. He was captured again in December, 1862, while helping defend the
 Neuse River railroad bridge south of Goldsboro against a raid by General John
 G. Foster

  The Nathan B. Hood Bible record disagrees with the John R. Hood Family
 Bible. The Nathan B. Hood Bible Record has John B. Hood as a son of John
 Robert Hood. While the John R. Hood Bible names John Robert Hood Jr.
 with different wives (first one passed away).
 The "Goldsboro News Argus" shown above named John R. Hood Jr., not
 John B. Hood.
  THE NATHAN B. HOOD FAMILY BIBLE
 by Hugh Buckner Johnson, Route 4, Box 160, Wilson Co., N.C.
 By accident, I found the original "Nathan B. HOOD Family Bible" in the
 Carolina Discipliana Collection at Atlantic Christian College, Wilson, N. C.
 It had been printed at "Auburn and Buffalo" in the 1850's and had been in
 more recent years the property of Mrs. W.W. (Martha CANADY) CARROLL of
 Dunn, N.C. John R. Hood (4 Sep 1804-24 Apr 1885), apparently the father
 of Nathan B. Hood, married Dizy GRANTHAM (dau of Solomon & Dicey BARFIELD
 GRANTHAM) on 27 Dec 1827. Dizy was born on 25 Apr 1805 and died 21 Aug 1886.
 In the Wayne County Census of 8 August 1850 on the south side of Neuse River
 District, I found John Hood, Jr., No. 127, with most of the following children
 found in the Bible record (five of them in school) and worth $3,000 in real
 property.
 Children of John R. & Dizy (GRANTHAM) HOOD:
 1. Robert B. HOOD was born 26 Nov 1828. [He probably married Mary M.
 Thornton of Johnston County on 27 Nov 1854.]
 2. Polly Ann Hood was born 12 Jul 1830 and died om 10 Sep 1885. [ I noted
 that a girl of that name married Gideon LEE on 9 Apr 1861 in Johnston Co.]
 3. Sarah B. Hood was born 9 Feb 1833 and died on 7 Feb 1886. [She
 apparently became wife of John Crawford Bridgers, which probably explains the
 two Bridger granddaughters found in this bible.
 a. Dizy L. Bridgers was born 30 Aug 1868 and died s. p. 6 Oct 1895
 b. Luner P. Bridgers was born 28 Jul 1870 and d. s. p. [I am told]
 in the 1940's in Goldsboro.
 4. William B. Hood was born 13 Mar 1835. On 30 Nov 1871, he married
 Martha HARPER.
 5. John B. Hood was born 14 May 1836, [I noted that a man of that name
 married Missouri Lee on 22 Jan 1867 in Johnston Co.]
 6. Edward B. Hood was born 20 Jan 1838. [I am told that he married Edith
 Finlayson Bridger a daughter of John Crawford Bridgers by his first
 marriage to Isabella FINLAYSON.
 7. Solomon P. Hood was born 28 Dec 1839.
 8. Ezekial Grantham Hood was born 17 Nov 1841.
 9. Nathan B. Hood was born 7 Oct 1843.
 10. Dizy K. Hood was born 3 Feb 1846 and died 7 Jun 1867.
 11. Charity B. Hood was born 5 Jul 1848 and died 20 Jul 1888. On 4 Feb
 1875, she married E. B. Cox, who died 14 Oct 1876.
