a. Note:   Obituary Indianapolis Star November 21, 1946
  James A. Carpenter, 82 years old, an Indianapolis resident the last 50 years, died here yesterday in the home of a daughter, Mrs. H.G. Altman, 1416 North Drexel Avenue. A native of Franklin County, Mr. Carpenter prior to his retirement was foreman of the upholstering department of the Parry Manufacturing Company, a position he had held 35 years. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America and the Little Flower Catholic Church. Survivors, besides the daughter, include two sons, Ralph E. Carpenter and Charles H. Carpenter, and a brother, Dr. C. H. Carpenter, all of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. George Coon of Alpine, Fayette County, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral service will be held at 8:30 o'clock friday morning in the Blackwell Funeral Home and at 9 o'clock in the Little Flower Catholic Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.
