Notes
a. Note:   Obituary of Eliza Heard "Mrs. Eliza Heard Departed this life on the 5th day of February, 1885, Sister Eliza Heard. A more tender hearted mother never lived. Sister Heard was born March 20, 1818 and was married to E Q Heard, 1834. She joined the Baptist Church at Hephzibah 1842 and was baptized by Elder John Dennis, and remained in the same church to the day of her death. She was a consistent Christian up to her death. For some years Sister Heard was much afflicted with dropsy and consumption, still she was a women of great energy and perseverance. Laboriously performing the duties of a faithful and sacrificing and affectionate mother, with the cares of a large family, and the weight of a wrecked fortune, and the physical decrepitude of old age, and the mental and nervous powers deranged by protracted afflictions, all pressing heavily upon her, it was but natural that she should sometimes give evidence of human frailty and imperfections. Yet amid trials so severe, and burdens so heavy, she gave pleasing evidence of a strong hope in the blessed Savior. As she neared the goal of her earthly pilgrimage, she demonstrated the power of the grace of God to sustain her through the dark valley of the shadow of death. She died willingly, cheerfully and fearing no evil, feeling that she was ready to depart and be with Christ, leaving her children and aged husband in the hands of him who doeth all things well. Her husband soon followed her. Two of the youngest children are left at the old homestead of the mother and father.
