Notes
a. Note:   N276 Francis Meriwether
 © The Meriwether Society, Inc.
Francis Meriwether was born about 1726 in Virginia, the sixth child and fourth son of David Meriwether and Elizabeth Crawford. On 16 Jan 1749/50 he married Mary Waller Lewis in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Francis & Mary had seven known children, all born in Virginia: John, Zachary, Nicholas, Ann, Elizabeth, Joseph and Mary.
In 1791 Francis & Mary moved to South Carolina to join their children, primarily Dr. Zachary Meriwether, who had moved there previously.
Francis died in about Jul 1793 in Abbeville County, where his will (signed 7 Jun 1793) was proved on 12 Sep 1793. Like most of his siblings and others of this time period, his burial location has been lost.
Note that many previous Meriwether genealogies have stated that Francis was born about 1716, the second son of David & Elizabeth. However, it has been proven by Meriwether Society researchers that Capt. David Meriwether, a Mariner, was actually the second son and born about 1716. Other evidence also suggested that Francis was born about 1726.
