Notes
a. Note:   N312 Thomas Meriwether (M123)
Most Meriwether-related genealogies state that Nicholas II had a son named Thomas. The existence of this Thomas is dubious and disputed. He is not mentioned with brothers William, David and Nicholas in the 1709 will of Thomas Meriwether (M15) nor in a 1714 deed nor in the 1721 will of his cousin Francis Clements, which listed all the (known) living children of Nicholas Meriwether.
This Thomas is also said to have had a son named Nicholas; no record of either has ever been found.
In the will of Nicholas II, he bequeaths a Negro boy to "Nicholas Meriwether, son of my Grandson Thomas Meriwether…"; in two other places he mentions a Capt. Thos. Meriwether, but does not show that these are all the same Thomas, son of David. Perhaps others confused this will entry and assigned to Nicholas a son named Thomas rather than a grandson as stated in the will.
