a. Note:   N26092 He was born 13 September 1805 in Greene county , Georgia and died 20 September 1854 at LaGrange, Georgia. He was educated at the University of Georgia. He was a Major General in the Georgia Militia. He was a member of the United States Congress from 1843 to 1851. He was a member of the Georgia Legislature for many years. On 5 February 1856, the State Legislature honored him by naming Haralson county, Georgia for him. He was married 27 November 1828 to Carolina Matilda Lewis who was born in 1808 in North Carolina and died in Georgia. She was the daughter of Nicholas Meriwether Lewis and Elizabeth Sutherland Lewis. Hugh was a staunch supporter of states rights. (Danny Haralson Book page 189)
