Notes
a. Note:   N125 Margaret "Peggy" (Douglass) Meriwether
 © The Meriwether Society, Inc.
Peggy was born in 1737 in Scotland, daughter of Parson William Douglass and Nicolas Hunter, his wife. They immigrated to Virginia where Parson Douglass became a notable Anglican minister and teacher, counting several future Presidents, as well as his future son-in-law, as his students.
Peggy married Nicholas Meriwether in 1760 and they had six children: William Douglass, Thomas, Nicholas Hunter, Charles, Francis Thornton and Elizabeth Meriwether.
Her husband Nicholas died in 1772 at the age of 36 and she and the children moved back with her parents, where it is said that Parson Douglass took over the duties of raising them.
Peggy and her mother were both loyal Tories during the Revolution and were very displeased when Parson Douglass, albeit reluctantly, pledged loyalty to the new American government.
In 1783, she married Chiles Terrell and they had a son, James Hunter Terrell. The Terrells lived at their plantation "Music Hall".
Peggy died in 1812 while visiting her son Capt. William Douglass Meriwether at "Clover Fields". Whether she was buried in the cemetery at "Clover Fields" or back at her home of "Music Hall" is not known.
