  Death of Col. J. Lucius Davis
 This gallant soldier died at his residence, near Buckinham C. H., on the 11th inst. His disease was brain fever, and his sickness, though short, was severe.
  Col. Davis was born in Clarke county, Va., on the 25th of January, 1813. Educated at West Point, he entered the U. S. army when quite young, and afterwards served with distinction as a volunteer in the Mexican war. Before the civil war he commissioned the Henrico Light Dragoons, and at its outbreak received a commission in the regular army of the Confederate States. Subsequently, he became Colonel of the Tenth Virginia Cavalry, and fought through the war.
  For the last six years he had lived in Buckingham, and was superintendent of the public schools of that county at the time of his death.
