Note: N159 The Leaf-Chronicle (Clarksville, Tennessee), 15 Feb 1904, Monday HER SUFFERING ENDS ——— MRS. JENNIE MERIWETHER DIED ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON, AFTER A LINGERING ILLNESS. ——— It Caused a Painful Shock to a Large Circle of Relatives and Friends. ——— Mrs. Jennie, beloved wife of Dr. Joseph C. Meriwether, departed this life at their home, near Peacher Mills, Sunday, February 14, at 1 p. m. Her death was due to cancer, from which she had been a great but patient sufferer for more than a year. Despite all that could be done by the most advanced medical skill she steadily declined, although the end was not thought so near by distant friends. Accordingly the shock to them was the more intense when the dread announcement came. A devoted wife and mother, her life reflected to a conspicuous degree the exalted virtues of noble, Christian womanhood. Mrs. Meriwether was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walton Barker, of this city, and was forty years of age. She was married to Dr. J. C. Meriwether about sixteen years ago. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, to all of whom her death comes as a great calamity, breaking as it does a happy home circle and sundering ties. The funeral was from the family home at 9 o'clock this morning, with service by her pastor, Rev. Robert Lord Cave, and interment was in Greenwood.
