  Norma Meriwether Thomas, 84, wife of Wayne L. Thomas of Hillcrest, North Towanda, formerly of Elmira, N.Y., passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2002, at Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Born June 4, 1918, in Elmira, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late William Calvin and Caroline Powers Meriwether. Norma was a graduate of Southside High School, Elmira, N.Y. On Dec. 6, 1944, she married Wayne L. Thomas in the Methodist Parsonage in Elmira Heights, N.Y.
  Norma was employed by A.C. Smith Auto Parts in Towanda, for 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Towanda, and was a former treasurer of the church Altar Guild. Norma was also a member of the Towanda American Legion Post No. 42 Auxiliary.
  Surviving are: her husband of 58 years, Wayne L. Thomas, at home; a son, Paul Meriwether, and his wife, Patricia Towner Meriwether, of Raleigh, N.C.; a daughter, Paula Thomas Vogt of Waverly, N.Y.; a sister, Irma Dockstader of Ithaca, N.Y.; a brother, Myron Meriwether of Elmira Heights, N.Y.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Louis and Roberta Thomas; grandchildren, Robin Meriwether and friend Sharon Jusko and Scott Meriwether, all of Raleigh, N.C., Kirstin Meriwether Hicks and husband Anthony L. Hicks Jr. of Youngsville, N.C., Tobey Thomas Vogt of Vail, Colo., Marissa Leigh Vogt of Waverly; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law; special friends Scott Mackie and Marty Vogt, Betty Towner, and Jim and Judi Towner; and her faithful Sheltie, "Boggie."
  She was preceded in death by her parents, William Calvin and Carolyn Powers Meriwether; a sister, Pearle Bassett; and brothers Victor Meriwether and Milton Meriwether.
  A requiem Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Christ Episcopal Church, 1 Main St., Towanda, Pa. 18848, with the Rev. Maureen Hipple, rector, as celebrant. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be directed to Christ Episcopal Church, 1 Main St., Towanda, Pa. 18848, in Norma's memory. The family extends a special "Thank You" to Hillcrest neighbors who have been so supporting during Norma's illness.
