  Nicholas Hunter Meriwether was the third son and child of Nicholas Meriwether and Peggy Douglass. He was born in Albemarle County in 1765 as recorded by his grandfather Parson William Douglass in his parish records.
  Nicholas married Rebecca"Becky" Terrell, daughter of Richmond Terrell and Ann Overton, on 26 Feb 1787 in Louisa County. They had seven children: Douglass (1788–1837), Charles Hunter (1790–1843), Ann Terrell (1791–1791), Anne Terrell (1792–1838), Walker Gilmer (1794–1841), Fontaine (1797–1861), and Margaret Douglas (1798–1855).
  Like his father and brother Thomas, Nicholas died relatively young, age 39, at his plantation "Morven". Where in Virginia he is buried is not known.
