Note: N4919 Civil War Service James enlisted on 8 Jun 1861 as a private in the Capt. William B. Isler's Company (Co. E?), Fifteenth Regiment Tennessee Infantry. His records state he went missing after the Battle of Missionary Ridge and was then listed as wounded and a prisoner on 25 Nov 1863. His name appears on an Oath of Allegiance to the United States, dated 27 April 1864 at the Rock Island Barracks, Illinois. No further record. One researcher claims he died in Montana. This suggests he may have been one of the "Galvanized Yankees", Confederate POWs who enlisted and were sent west to fight the Indians. No evidence of this has been found in his war records, however.
