Note: N5596 Edward Baylor Meriwether Alton Evening Telegraph (Alton, Illinois) 7 November 1895 Death of E. B. Meriwether Mr. Edward B. Meriwether died at his residence in Highland Park, on Saturday night, shortly before midnight, after a lingering illness. Mr. Meriwether removed to Alton from Shipman two years ago on account of feeble health, purchasing a beautiful home in Highland Park, where he and his family have since resided. The friends he made in Alton highly appreciated his acquaintanceship, and enjoyed his neighborly and friendly qualities. He was born in Todd county, Ky., in December, 1830, and removed to Carrollton, Ill., in 1836. In 1844 he removed to Shipman, Ill., where he resided until his removal to Alton in 1893. September 27, 1855, he was married. Mr. Meriwether engaged in farming, and was most successful in this pursuit. In this old home, Shipman, and surrounding country, he was highly esteemed and respected. His death, after a number of years of feeble health, occurred Saturday, Nov. 2. His widow and his only son, Edward, survive him.
