  Prof. J. D. Meriwether died at his home on North Carolina street Wednesday morning at 5:30 o'clock, after an illness of over a year, aged 69 years. Prof. Meriwether was born in Bloomington, Ind., and came to Missouri when twelve years of age and settled in Lewis County. About 45 years ago he moved to Pike county. Prof. Meriwether received a fine education and for many years taught in the schools and colleges of the state. He at one time taught in Park college at Parkville. At one time he conducted a book store there, but for the last few years he taught a private school. Prof. Meriwether was a good, kind and useful man. Many of the boys and girls from his school have gone out to lead useful lives, that owe their first start to his teachings. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss. The children are: JD Jr., of this city; FM of Slater; Thos. D., in US Navy; Mrs. John C. Smith, of this city, and Mrs WR Henderson of California, MO. The funeral was conducted from the First Presbyterian church Thursday at 2:30 o'clock and the burial was in the city cemetery.
