Notes
a. Note:   N250 Ancestry of Lydia Laurie
Aunt Lou's book claims that Lydia Laurie, first wife of Dr. Charles Meriwether (1766-1843), was the daughter of Patrick Laurie and that she was the niece of Miss Nicolas Hunter, wife of Parson William Douglass and grandmother of Dr. Charles. If so, then Patrick Laurie's wife must have been a sister of Miss Nicolas Hunter.
There exist genealogy records for a Patrick Laurie of Scotland, born 1725 and died 1791, married in 1748 to a Margaret or Mary McRea, born 1726, died 1803. Margaret McRea is the daughter of Margaret Douglass, sister of Parson William Douglass, and George McCrea. This would make Lydia a Douglass relative of Lydia, not a Hunter.
The UK, Extracted Probate Records, 1269-1975 lists Lydia Laurie/Lawrie, dau. of Patrck L., deceased, wife of Dr. Charles meriwether. As the Patrick Laurie who married Miss McCrea died in 1791, before Lydia, this is consistent with him being deceased in 1794. The Meriwether Society is thus tentatively accepting this as the correct lineage of Lydia and genealogical connection to Dr. Charles.
Other sources state Lydia's mother was a McLeand/McKeand, sister of Grishelda McLeand/McKeand (1670-1741), mother of Parson William Douglass, but given Grishelda was born in 1670 and her supposed niece 100 years later in 1763, that seems unlikely.
