Note: N262 Leaf-Chronicle (Clarksville, Tennessee), 13 September 1869, Monday, Page 3 Meriwether—At Meriville, Todd county, Ky., on the 1st day of August, 1869, Mrs. Mary Meriwether, consort of Dr. Charles Meriwether. Mrs. Meriwether was born in Halifax county, Va., and emigrated to this country at a very early day having resided at Meriville, the place of her death, for the period of sixty-one years. By reason of natural strength perfected by a temperate and active life, she passed the four-score years, which is permitted to only a few of the more favored of the human race. She died in her 87th year. She was a kind and affectionate mother, a kind neighbor, a most energetic an thrifty housewife; her household was always a model system, order and neatness. Her life was dignified, her character consistent, and her appreciation of the sphere and mission of her sex will cause her to be long remembered and revered by all who knew her. To the virtues that called out the esteem and respect of every one she added the graces of an earnest, devoted Christian. In early life, she became convinced of the truth of Christianity, and obeyed from the heart that form or doctrine once delivered to the saints. Having adopted this life, she was steadfast and unwavering and never doubted, or halted, or looked back. Her Christianity was not theoretical nor sensational but life-long. She was regular in attending upon public worship; she honored and maintained preachers, and practiced the most generous Christian hospitality toward all persons. She stretched out her hand to the poor, and reached forth to the needy and many have called her blessed. She looked well to her household______ ate the bread of idleness. ________ works praise her, and let _______ gracious remembrance by those who have been the recipients of her charity. The long and useful life has ceased because man goeth to his long home, and the silver cord is loosed, and the golden bowl is broken, and the dust has returned to the earth as it was, and the spirit unto the God who gave it.
