Note: CORNELIUS is believed to have come from Ireland around 1745 and to have settled in or near Straight-Stone Creek, Pittsylvania County, VA. JAMES R. McHANEY of Cape Girardeau, MO has plotted land holdings of CORNELIUS based on real estate records of Pittsylvania County. CORNELIUS is listed in the reconstituted census of VA (1790) as head of a family with 7 children (or 6 and wife). Pittsylvania County records contain the will of CORNELIUS and an appraisal of his estate. The latter indicates that he owned 63 slaves. From MARY INGLIS SIMS (1986) CORNELIUS MACKEANNY, York County VA Court Records, 24 Sep 1700. DENNIS McHaney (His inventory) Pittsylvania Court Records Bk 4, pg 176, Oct 1778.
