TO: THE CHILDREN OF JEWEL HUGGINS (TURNAGE)
 FROM: PAT TURNAGE
 DATE: MAY 29 1985
 SUBJECT: THROID/ADRENAL TUMOR
Enclosed please refer to the copy of the letter from Mary Nell Huggins (Kendrick) about the Medullary Thyroid cancer.which she has and her doctor's recommendation that all of her relatives have a blood test to measure their Calcitonin level to determine if they have this type of cancer.
Refer to page 126-127 of «u»"Your Thyroid"«/u» which briefly describes the different thyroid cancers, including Mary Nell's type-- Medullary Carcinoma.
Also, refer to the "Phechromocytoma" on page 1277-1278 form «u»"The Merck Manual"«/u», 1977 in which this kind of tumor is discussed.
You should make your doctor knowledgeable about these conditions which since they are familial or develop as a part of an inherited disorder, you could have.
Note that "pheochromocytomas" are often found with the parathroid, adanomas, and medullary carchinomas of the thyroid, therefore, your doctor should examine for all these conditions. Refer to the about mentioned book which can be found in your public library if you need more information about the other conditions.
