a. Note:   Hughlon served in the U. S. Navy during World War II from 1943 until 1947. Part of that time was a board the U. S. S. Biloxi.
  While Hughlon was in the Navy he started working with leather and became very good at it. He did all kinds of leather work, but was known for his saddles. He was also known every where as "Slim" Sheppard.
  Hughlon told of hearing his mother say that as a young girl, she played a couple of instruments and the group would sit in a circle Indian Style and play for hours. The group included: family, friends and sometimes the now famous Jimmie Rogers would join them.
