  !3 Oct 2001: SAGUACHE - Cy Maez Sr., 75, of Saguache, died September 30, 2001 in Colorado Springs. He was born Feb. 23, 1926, in Saguache to Leonard and Dometilia Salaz Maez, and was united in marriage to Ralfleita Martinez in Saguache. A veteran of the United States Army during World War II, he was past president of the Mountain Valley School District Board of Education, past board member of Blue Peaks and a member of the American Legion Garcia Post in Saguache. Cy owned and operated a service station in Saguache for many years, was a sheep shearer and trucker. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, woodworking and especially the time he spent with his loving family. Survivors include his loving wife Ralfleita Maez of the family home; one daughter, Kathy Maez of Cody, WY; four sons, Cy (Theresa) Maez, Chris (Roberta) Maez and Ralph Maez, all of Colorado Springs and Rick Maez of Saguache; four grandchildren, Cynthia (Phil Valdez) of Colorado Springs, Patrick (Nicole) Maez of Cozad, Neb.; Melissa Maez and Makyla Maez both of Colorado Springs; one great-grandson, Sean Valdez of Colorado Springs; one sister, Estefana Anglada of Denver; two brothers, Toby (Helen) Maez of Commerce City and Paul Maez of Denver; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Cy was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Timmy Maez; and three brothers, Andy, Sam and Nemesio Maez. A vigil service with Recitation of the Rosary was held Tuesday at Saint Agnes Church in Saguache. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 3, in the same church with burial and full military honors following in the Hillside Cemetery at Saguache. Arrangements are by Romero Funeral Home of Monte Vista. The Valley Courier Newspaper, October 3, 2001.
