Note: N100 !Date and Place of birth from Gail Salazar, 2002, gailsalazardesigns@@msn.com. !the Rio de San Juan - runs through Abiquiu and San Juan de los Caballeros. !Beverly Obera has a picture which has written on the back that it is Tenacio Russell and that he died in 1925 at 75 years of age. The story she has been told by Sylvia Gallegos is that Lucy Martinez's son was fathered by Nathan Russel. She married Juan Maez and so began the family name Maez. Her father remembered a Robert Russel that he went to school with. Information from a letter from Beverly Obera in 1992. !The Nathan Russell story is a family story without any proof. Nathan came to America in 1841 and was in Pike Co., Illinois. He crossed the plains in 1859 which is after the birth of Tenacio Maez. Tenacio's marriage record in 1872 lists his father as Juan Isidro Maez. !I came across just one little bit of information about Tenacio . I found a record that said he had green eyes and was 5' 1" tall and that he had dark red hair, he had a long scar on his chest from being kicked by a horse and had a cleft chin like a dimple on the end of his chin. I thought it was neat information to picture what he actually looked like. Info from Gail Salazar gailsalazardesigns@@msn.com. 2002. !Checked the baptisms for Santa Cruz dela Canada, Abiquiu, San Juan de los Caballeros, Taos, Santa Fe and Picuris and no mention of Jose Atanasio Maez.
