H. Ham was the editor of the Saguache Crescent Newspaper. He sold the paper to Charles Ogden. Ham wrote an unusually brief farewell: With this issue of the Crescent we severed our connection with the same....Mr. Ogden informs us that he will continue the paper Republican, politically, but will endeavor to give the general news regardless of politics. We wish Mr. Ogden success in his venture into the newspaper field in Saguache and trust the people will be more liberal in telling him of local happenings than they have been in the past. !26 Sep 1918: George Ham, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Ham of Holton, Kansas, a brother of W. H. and Joe, is makings first visit to Saguache since 1903. Mr. Ham is now one of the prosperous farmers of that state. W. H. Ham, former publisher of the Saguache Crescent and an old time resident of Saguache died at Salida last Friday and funeral services and interment were held in Saguache on Tuesday of this week. Wm. H. Ham was born in Atchison County, Kansas, April 21st, 1873. He came to Saguache in September 1888 and resided here until 1917. He learned the printers trade in the Crescent under R. H. Janes, and was publisher from 1910 unit 1917, when the paper was purchased by Chas. W. Ogden, the present owner. Several years ago Mr. Ham had a paralytic stroke, from which he never recovered and his death was due to heart trouble. Mr. Ham, who has been staying with his sister and mother at Salida, was feeling as well as usual, but had an attack with his heart Friday morning and never regained consciousness, passing away Friday night His mother, sister and Brother Joe and family of Saguache, were present at his bedside when the end came. His wife and son of Denver were summoned and came to attend the funeral. W. H. Ham was married to Sarah Fullerton June 1, 1903, and to this union were born two boys and one girl. Funeral services were held from the Saguache Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Milciating (sic). Burial was in the Saguache cemetery. The Saguache Crescent, Saguache, Colorado, Thursday, September 4, 1924. !There are two main grave markers at the Cemetery. 1. James H. Hamm 1865-1920. Mary M. 18/6/1941 and 2. Joseph W Hamm 18l75-1963, Eliza H., Mary S. and William H. Grave 1. marked by funeral marker only and it is not in very good shape. You can see the name of Joseph W. on the metal marker. All names on marker's have been added not to long ago. Letter from Cy Maez, 1996. !Hillside Cemetery is located about 1/2 mile southeast of the town of Saguache on Cemetery Road. To get to Hillside, turn east on Pitkin Avenue and drive approximately 7 blocks, turn left, go one block then turn right at the stop sign. Follow the county road approximately 1/2 mile to the cemetery entrance. Hamm graves are in Block F. !25 Sep 1906: Walter Humphries of Longmont and Miss Elsie Hamm were in married in Denver Tuesday Sep 25th. The bride is a sister of W. H. Ham of the Crescent and is well known in this vicinity, and has a wide range of friends, having lived here with he mother for many years. She is a graduate of our high school, and of the State Norman School; and has been a successful teacher for several years. The groom is in the employ of a prominent Longmont mercantile fir, and is highly respected. They expect to make Longmont their home.
