  !27 Jun 1935: Seward Independent, 6/27/35, Thurs. Charles Nelson Died at Omaha Hospital. Charles Nelson, 70, died early Wednesday morning at an Omaha hospital, after a long illness. He was born in Saunders county, but had lived in Seward county for the last fifty years. He was engaged in farming, but retired during the later years, and moved to Seward. He served as mayor, city councilman, and was an active member of the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Nelson's wife preceded him in death by thirty years. He is survived by one son, Lee Nelson of Hastings, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Methodist church, with Rev. C.H. Prouty officiating. Stores will close from 2 to 3 on Friday afternoon, during the funeral.
