The dead are R B Burlingame, 30, and his mother Mrs Cora May Eubank, 47. [Note she was actually 53] Albuquerque Journal (Albuquerque, New Mexico) > 1946 > August > 24 Raton, Aug 23, State Police captain A P Winston Jr blamed a spotlight on a pickup truck for an accident which claimed two lives and left three other persons injured near here Friday. He said drivers of two other vehicles travelling the opposite direction were blinded, with the result one brought his passenger car to a stop and the other drove his heavy truck and van into the rear of the halted automobile. Two members of an Amarillo, Texas fishing party R B Burlingame, 30 and his mother Mrs Cora May Eubank, 47, were killed instantly. Brought to a Raton hospital with injuries were Mrs Eubank's husband, J J Eubank, 55, Bobby Burlingame 2 and Norma Jane [correct to Jan] Eubank 9. Captain Winston's report named the driver of the heavy truck as G J Richardson of Pueblo, Colorado. The driver of the pickup was not identified. The crash occured 23 miles east of Raton on U S 87 as the Amarilloans were en route home from Eagle Nest lake. Amarillo Globe (Amarillo, Texas) > 1946 > December > 31 An agreed settlement between Margaret Howren Burlingame, John C Eubank and others and the Safeway Stores, Inc, in connection with a fatal automobile accident was approved yeaterday by Judge Henry S Bishop of 47th District Court, who heard the agreement in 108th District Court in the absence of Judge W E Gee. R B Burlingame, husband of Mrs Margaret Howren Burlingame, and Cora May Eubank, wife of John C Eubank, were killed in an automibile-truck collision near Raton, New Mexico, last June. In the settlement Mrs Burlingame received $3500 for herself, her two children and an unborn child. Mr Eubank received $2500 and an additinal $500 for personal injuries and injuries to his child. The accident occurred when a Safeway truck, blinded by lights of an approaching car, which had forced the Burlingame car off the road, crashed into the rear of the Burlingame car.
