The Iliff's lived near LaCrosse. Harry Burlingame would court Cora in his buggy. Her brothers once played a practical joke on Harry by switching the front and back wheels of the buggy. Her brothers were big men. Her Dad was 6' 4" and 240 lbs. He was English, Irish. Her mother was Irish. Cora Mae's grandmother snuck on board a ship from Ireland in a hogshead barrel.
Mr Iliff (Cora Mae's dad) came over once to Dad's (H Vernon Burlingame, Sr) house to build an addition. He was a part time carpenter. He would sing church songs. When he hurt himself, he'd start swearing "a blue streak". Then he'd start singing his song again.
When Vern Burlingame, Jr was 11 years old, he lived in Denver with Aunt Carrie Burlingame Schmidt. His mother was attending a trade school.
