Note: POSTED ON FIND A GRAVE WEB SITE: Birth: Mar. 3, 1782 Berkshire County, Massachusetts, USA Death: Nov. 29, 1857 Capt. Bradley Tuttle, a prominent early settler of Auburn, NY, died at the age of 75. Born in Berkshire, Massachusetts, in the wake of the Revolutionary War, he exemplified the spirit of the new American nation. A builder by profession, he had come to the area as a youth, and throughout his life was involved in numerous projects and committees that gave rise to the present county capital. During the War of 1812, while in his early 30's, he commanded a locally-raised cavalry troop that had been formed several years earlier. He was thereafter known as as "Captain Tuttle". Survived by his wife, the former Paulina Smith, he was interred in her family's plot here in North Street Cemetery, where she joined him in death a decade later. Their graves are marked by an elevated marble obelisk which dominates the southwestern quarter of the burial ground. The side of the obelisk bearing Paulina's name is adorned with a hand cuffed in lace pointing skyward, while the Captain's side features a more masculine version of the same image. Mr. Tuttle's mother, the former Huldah Bachus, is also buried in this plot.
