Note: Tuttle, printed and published by Tuttle & Co., Rutland, VT, 1883: p.591 "Jacob Tuttle, b. March 18, 1798, in Madison Co., N.Y.; left home at 19; worked on the canal at Lockport, N.Y., 2 years; removed to Hamilton, Canada West, and worked 5 years at farming and brick making; removed to St. Thomas, Elgin Co., C. W.; cleared and cultivated several hundred acres of land and was one of the largest farmers in that region from 1824 to 1834; removed to Caradoc, Middlesex Co., C. W., and farmed till 1856; thence to Reid's Landing, Minn., but not being successful returned to Canada 1858. While there he advocated the free school system, and was mainly instrumental in getting it establlished. In 1863 removed to Menominee, Dunn Co., Wis., and died in Stanton (Dunn Co., Wis.) of stagnation of the blood, Dec. 16, 1880, age 83 years. An obituary in the Menominee paper, speaks warmly of his many good qualities and the high esteem in which he was held. He married at Hamilton, C. W., Lois AVERILL, sister to his brother Stephen's wife, b. Mt. Pleasant, Ontario, C. W., Nov. 16, 1804; children: 1.Abraham, m. Jan., 1850, Mary CORNWELL 2.Mary, d. 1863; m. Knapp, Dunn Co., Wis., had large family 5.Jacob, m. 1854, Eliza Marshall, who d. 1871, leaving large family. He m. twice more; res. Edmore, Mich. 6.Margaret, m. 1854, John WISEMILLER; res. Stanton, Dunn Co., Wis., several children 7.Eliza Jane, d. about 1840, age 2 years 8.Mercy Maria, d. 1852, age 16 9.Martha Ann, m. 1857, Jacob MILLER; res. Menominee, Wis. 10.John, b. April 11, 1843; served through the war in Co. F, 97th N. Y. Vols.; afterwards followed farming and lumbering in Dunn Co. till 1874; removed with his brother Albert to San Francisco, Cal., and engaged in brick making, 234 Montgomery Street.
