"Deacon Lyman Tuttle came to Camden with his father. When he grew to manhood he married SARAH HUNGERFORD September 27, 1820. He succeeded his father in the old home, but in his declining years moved into the village, occupying the house which the late R. Harding moved back on the premises when he built the fine residence now standing on Main street. Here he lived with his daughter, Sarah, who married CALVIN PRESTON. Deacon Tuttle had three children by his first wife: Andrew Orris Tuttle, born July 7, 1821. The next was a son, who died in infancy; and Sarah Eliza, born October 12, 1829. He married the second time SABRA WHITNEY, who was born August 13, 1806. One daughter was born to them, Helen Orvilla, October 14, 1838. Deacon Lyman Tuttle died in 1865, aged 69 years . "He was one of the earliest inhabitants of Camden, coming when a mere child, and growing up with the town. He, like many others of the early settlers, saw the wilderness become a thriving village. He has seen the rising and setting of a generation." SARAH HUNGERFORD TUTTLE died October 16, 1833. The second wife died in 1782, aged 66 years; SARAH PRESTON died October 20, 1871, aged 42 years, leaving one daughter. HELEN TUTTLE was one of the earliest teachers in the Union School. She went West to reside."

"Lyman Tuttle, b. Aug. 14, 1796, near Clinton, Oneida Co., NY. He began to study for the ministry, but failing eyesight compelled him to abandon it. He held the office of deacon in the Presbyterian Church of Canden for over 30 years; he died Oct. 25, 1865. "An obituary written by his pastor, the Rev. W. S. Franklin, says: "The community has sustained a common loss in the death of Deacon Lyman Tuttle. He was a man of rare worth; one of those whose loss will be appreciated the more we realize that he is gone. Having been a resident of this town for sixty-eight years, he has seen the wilderness beccome a fruitful field; a thriving village taking the place of a dense forest. He has been especially identified with the religious history of the place. While a youth he made profession of his faith in Christ and for fifty years walked before this community as a man eminently worthy of his high and holy calling. Being united with the Congregational Church, he was one of its main supporting pillars and a faithful standard bearer for more than 30 years. His eulogy is written in a long life of earnest piety. Until a few days before his death he was active and energetic in his Master's business, we so little thinking that we should so soon bear him to the grave with universal lamentations. But such is the way of Him who has now removed from the church militant, one we could least afford to spare. He went down to his grave, gathered like a shock of corn fully ripe, in his season, leaving us to mourn his loss, while we temper our grief with the assurance that our loss is his eternal gain." Married Sept. 20, 1820, SARAH HUNGERFORD, who died Oct. 16, 1833; m. (2) May 6, 1835, SABRA WHITNEY of Henderson, Jefferson Co., N.Y., b. Aug. 13, 1807; died at Henderson, N.Y., Oct. 18, 1872; (a niece of the Rev. C. E. Finney;) - children by 1st marriage born in Camden, N.Y."
