Her religious experience, written out in full in her own hand, as was the custom of that period, is preserved by her descendant, Mr. CHARLES THOMPSON.

While on a visit to New Hav., a party of British and Indians burned his house and murdered his whole family excepting a daughter, whom they carried away into captivity. After a fritless search for her, he returned to live with his friends in N. H., ruined and heart broken. Eventually he beame deranged or unsettled in mind, manifested sometimes in long, moody fits of silence. On the morning of July 5, 1779, his friends fled for safety to the old HUBBARD house near West Rock, but could not induce Elisha to go with them. The British soldiers found him, beat him cruelly, and at last pried upen his mouth with the point of a bayonet and cut out his tongue, perhaps because he would not answer their questions. He d. the same day. His family owned the ground and lived where Christ church now stands near the corner of Broadway and York st., and he was killed in that vicinity.
