For many years Rector of St. Luke's (Episc.) in N.Y.C.; D.D. "I have known him since he was at college, and never knew a better man than he."- Rev. John W. Clark, letter to Comp., 1883; m. Sept. 28, 1842, SARAH PARMALEE, dau. of Capt. BENJAMIN BEECHER of N.H., [3] who d. May, 1874. 1, H. CROSWELL TUTTLE, d. in N.Y.C. a. he had done more, per., to lighten the labor of conveyancing lawyers in the examination of titles in t his city than had before been done or even attempted by any other laborer in that field. His three large vols. of Abstracts of Title, covering all the landed property from 39th to 127th St. east of 3d Ave., and from 75th to 120th St. west of 8th Ave., (or more strictly, east and west of the common lands), filled with most accurate maps, were sufficient proof of his industry. His unremitting labors upon these books no doubt hastened his death; and it will be a source of regret to the entire profession that he did not live to complete the remainder of his series of titles, two other vols. of which were nearly ready for the press.
