Note: In Mr. Savage's book, Vol. 1, p.276, he writes: ". . . .Samuel was killed by his mother 20 June 1691, with an axe, and she was convicted 1 Oct. 1691 following of murder; but the court had sense enough to set aside the verdict, as it was clearly a case of insanity.[[vol. 1, p. 276]] The father died in that same year but, after the trial, sent an effective petition to the Court. Only three children were then living: Sarah, wife of Joseph Doolittle, Rachel, and Francis; the widow was still living in 1695."
