The legend is that he and his sister Ann (who m. Dr. John Pearce) were of gentle blood, and were left orphans at an early age under the guardianship of an uncle, avaricious and unprincipled, who, under pretence of securing them an education, sent them to New England, and afterwards squandered their property. John had his home lot in Southbury, where Mrs. Whitlock now resides. He m. Judith ___, - children: Elizabeth, bap. July 1689; 2. Anna, bap. Nov 1690, m. 1714 Ebenezer Squier; 3. Martha bap. Nov 1693, m. Hezekiah Tuttle; 4. Mary, bap. May 1696, m. 1714 Jehiel Preston; 5. Elizabeth b. Aprili 1698, m. 1717 Josiah Root. Olive Wheeler d. in Southbury, Conn., Feb. 5, 1864, age 90. Mary Ann Wheeler died in Woodbury, Conn., Sept. 30, 1768."
