When he was about 6 yrs. of age, his mother (in a fit) fell with him into the fire and his feet were so burned as to cripple him for life. His mother died soon after of her injuries. and he went to live with his brother-in-law, Chamberlain. When only 6 yrs. of age, he was sent into tho woods after cows, got lost, and lay on a ledge of rocks all night. In the morning, hearing the roosters crow, he followed the sound and found the nearest house six mlles from home. A meadow that he passed throngh barefoot was covered with a white frost. His only clothing was a shirt and trowsers, a rough experience for a boy of six. A neighbor took him home on horseback. He married in Lansing, N.Y., Oct. 3,1812, Sarah Case, b. N.J., May 2, 1790; d. March 20, 1866; a wedded life of 54 yrs. He was 60 yrs. a mem. of the Bapt. church, and was living in 1870, !n his 84th yr. He gathered materials (probably !ost) for a history of Brandon."
