Nathaniel Tuttle Will

Ephraim Tuttle and Isaac Tuttle, the sons of Mr Nathaniel Tuttle late of Woodbury deceased came to this court and exhibited a will or testament in order to its approbation as was [read] of and considered, and there being observed some things therein hard to be understood; this court allows the heirs and legatees one months time from this day for them to go to come to an agreement among themselves:
And this court does appoint Mrs Sarah Tuttle the widow of the said Natll Tuttle and Isaac Tuttle his youngest son to be administrators on the estate, there being no executor named by the testator, and that letter of administration be forthwith given, and bond taken according to the direction of the law. Letter of administration to Mrs Sarah Tuttle and Isaac her son has been given according to the above order. Anthony Stoddard Clerk and also administration bond has been taken and is upon file.
Decbr 4th, 1721, this day did Isaac Tuttle the administrator come to this court in order to a settlement of his fathers estate; and the will was read of and each of the legatees] under their hands gave their consent that sd will should stand, and Mr Samll Ball and Samll Sherman sent into the court under their hand their testimony that the widow Tuttle consented that the will should stand:
Hereupon it is ordered that the will exhibited be established, and it is recorded on the record, and also the inventory [prosd] by the administrator be put on record.
The Will I being in perfect understanding and also sensible of my change, do ordain this, my last will and testament. Imprimis, I order and appoint my son Isaac to take care of my loving wife all the time she shall bear my name, to ??? viz my wife, I appoint thirds of all that I have: after each of the children have their parts:
To my son Ephraim I give the home lot where his house stands and orchard, as also the home lot divisions, as also half the orchard upon it, the other half of orchard, upon said lot, I give to my son Isaac:
Item I give to my son Ephraim the upper meadow next the sawmill containing six acres; I give to my son Ephraim four acres at the south end of Joshua`s Hill, instead of the half of the orchard which I gave Isaac:
Item I give to my son Ephraim two cows, and a mare, and a gun which he has already received:
Item I give to my son Hezekiah one house one cow which he hath already received, and six acres of swamp att Joshua`s Hill which he has already received: As also twelve acres of land lying att the north end of my lot att Joshua`s Hill, bounded by the brook and Mr Balls land, as also two acres meadow, in Popular Meadow, lying next Ephraim Minor`s meadow, running across from the highway:
Item I give to my son Isaac my house and all my homestead, and the half of the orchard above [exprest], as also three acres and an half of meadow in Poplar Meadow, and the lower meadow and swamp in the woods, and six acres of upland and swamp at Joshua`s Hill, and the remainder of my lot at Joshua`s Hill, excepting four acres of which, that I give to my daughter Ann; I give my son Isaac my train and tackling, and a cow, one mare with the ???, the mare already received, and half my sheep, a gun, and all implements of husbandry:
Item I give to my two daughters Temperance, and Ann, all my household [illegible] brass, iron pots, beds, and beding, with all things also belonging to the house as also all my stock except one cow, and my half sheep which I have given to my son Isaac:
Item I give my sons Hezekiah and Isaac all my right in south purchase
Item I give to my son Isaac, my half division and two acres meadow that is wanting to me in the laying of my portion

Novbr 12th 1725 Isaac Tuttle administrator on sd above estate came to the court and presented an agreement reporting sd personal estate, wherein each of sd legatee`s ??? in sd personal estate declared themselves satisfied with what they have each received and each of tm subscribing to said agreement acknowledge it before sd court on sd day above named. On this 12th of Novbr 1725 Isaac Tuttle having satisfied sd court that he hath fully discharged sd trust ??? in him as administrator, and moved for his wishes, this court doth now discharge him from his administration and deliver him his bond:

"Nathaniel Tuttle, bap. New Haven, CT Feb. 29, 1652, of Branford church. At the 3d division in N. H. (1680) "Nathaniel Tuttle a soldier" did not come in till after the lots had been drawn and was allowed to come in after the division on the east side. He probably served in the Indian War. He afterwards sold his rights to Rev. JAMES PIERPONT and his heirs. In a deed dated 1693 he is called of New Haven, husbandman. He probably lived some time in Wallingford, but removed to Woodbury, CT where he joined the church May 12, 1695, and was on the list of a division of the meadow in Shepaug Run 1712; m. Aug. 10, 1682, Sarah (dau. of wid. Ann) Howe.* She joined the church in N. Haven 1693. In a deed dated Nov. 6, 1695, Ann Howe makes her mark and Nathaniel Tuttle signs "in behalf of my wife." He died in Woodbury Aug. 20, 1721, and his widow died same month, according to one account, but Cothren in Woodbury Statistics says: "Sarah Tuttle the aged wqidow d. Nov., 1743.""

[*Edward Howe of Lynn, Mass., came in the Trulove 1635, age 60 with wife Elizabeth age 50. He was freeman of Mass. 1636; Rep. March, May and Sept. 1638, and died 1639. 1. JEREMY, b. 1614, removed to N. Haven and died 1600; supposed father of Bathsheba who was 2nd wife of Col. DIXWELL; 2. SARAH, b. 1623; 3. EPHRAIM, b. 1625, m. ANN HOUGH, b. in Bristol, England, 1630, removed to New Haven. Cotton Mather relates that he was Capt. of a ketch and was shipwrecked on an uninhabited island off Cape Sable in Sept., 1676, and that all his fellow voyagers (among them NICHOLAS AUGER) died. Capt. HOWE remained all winter on the island, enduring great hardships, and was taken off the following summer by a vessel and carried to Salem, whence he returned to his family in New Haven after an absence of nearly eleven months. He died 1680; 11 children: 1. EPHRAIM, b. 1653, m. and had dau. 1. Ruth, m. Capt. DANIEL TUTTLE of Wallingford, CT; 2. Mary b. 1674, m. 1694 DANIEL BROWN and had Daniel, tutor Yale College, received Epis. ordination in England 1723 from Dr. GREEN, Bishop of Norwich; 2. Sarah, b. Jan. 25, 1654, m. NATHANIEL TUTTLE as above; 3. Mary, b. 1657; 4. Samuel, 1658; 5. Isaac, Aug. 22, 1666 - and perhaps more. All the sons followed the sea and not one survived to his 26th year. Ephraim and Samuel died on one voyage. Isaac died in Boston and Daniel died in Suranam about 6 months later.]
