 "David Tuttle, b. Nov. 14, 1668 [NOTE: a typo appears in his birth year as 1868 instead of 1668.] settled first in Wallingford, Conn., and March 14, 1693, conveys his house and home lot there, six acres and other parcels of land to JOSEPH HOULT. 1730, David Tuttle, sr., of Norwalk, conveyed to Josiah Tuttle right to land formerly belonging to my grandfahter, Wm. Tuttle; also as attorney for my sister, Mrs. ELIZABETH READ of Norwalk, right in third division; 1728, conveyed to THOMAS SEYMOUR of Norwalk. Same day Thomas Seymour conveyed to DAVID TUTTLE, jr., 40 acres in Canaan, near Stamford line; Jan. 26, 1731-2, conveyed to son Nathan (Norwalk Land Records). He married Nov. 24, 1698, Mary, daughter of Mr. JOHN READ of Norwalk. He died 1752, age about 83. David Tuttle and JOHN WARING gave bonds to administer his estate, Jan. 16, 1752. Inventory taken Jan. 21, 1852; £849 9s 6d. JOHN and JOSHUA RAYMOND, apprs. In the formation of the church at Darien, Conn., David Tuttle, THOMAS READ and JONATHAN BELL (closely related) were leading men. Mr. HUNTINGTON, in History of Stamford, transcribes a church record of the proceedings of this custom than any other parish in the town, and well worth preserving as a curiosity of the time. Besides it indicates some of the principal men of that day in that part of the town. On the first vote the society decided to seat the meeting house by a committee; 2nd vote, ye soc. allowed ye 1st pew to be ye hiest in dignity; 3rd vote, ye 2nd pew ye next hiest; 4th, the fore pew to be 3rd hiest; 5th, the front pew by the great door to be ye 4th hiest; 6th, the corner pew at the northwest to be 5th hiest, and so on to the 10th vote, settling the order of the pews in dignity; 13th vote, Captain DANIEL READ chosen a com. to seat the meeting house; 14th vote, Mr. David Tuttle, Mr. THOMAS READ, Capt. JOHN RAIMENT, Mr. EDMUND WARING, Mr. JONATHAN BATES, Mr. NATHAN SELLECK, Mr. JAMES SLASON and Mr. JONATHAN BELL, all to sit in ye fore pew; 15th vote, Deacon Bishop to sit in his seat before ye pulpit; 16th vote, ye comety instructed to seat the remainder according to their own discretion."
