The town of North Branford was incorporated in May, 1858, taken from Branford. The Congregational Church at North Branford, called Northford, was organized June 13, 1750.

Stephen was the son of Stephen and Anna (Culver) Cook. He married Sylvia Meigs on April 20, 1777, in Connecticut. He moved from Connecticut in 1805 with his wife and 12 children to Burke, NY. He was a Revolutionary War veteran.
