John Reed, Jr., eldest son, named from his father according to the old custom, appears on the Norwalk records first as a voter there in 1694. In Huntington's History of Stamford he is named as a purchaser of land of Stephen Clason of Stamford, 1691, of Cornelius Jones, 1709, and of Jonathan Bates, 1713. Colonial records cite him as admitted to the bar Oct. 7, 1708, and as attorney for the Crown and deputy for Norwalk. The inventory of his estate was filed at Fairfield, Conn., Nov. 12, 1724, and he probably died that year.
His wife Elizabeth was the daughter of John and Kattareen (Lane) Tuttle and granddaughter of William Turtle and wife Elizabeth of New Haven, Conn. She belonged to that branch of the family in England, the head of which was William Tuttle called in the pedigree "Esq. of Devonshire;" a Bailiff in 1528 and 1548, High Sheriff of Devon, 1549, and Lord Mayor of Exeter, 1552. Pedigree copied from Tuckett's Devon, supplied by Ainsworth Spofford. Esq., Librarian of Congress.
