He was a Captain in the local Militia, and was a man of much prominence. He was the eldest son of his parents, and according to the custom in those days inherited the largest share of the family property, thus becoming a large land owner. He donated the ground for St. James Episcopal Church also the roadway known as Church Hill an extension of Grand Avenue, There were only nine members of the Church at that time and the family were all very efficient workers for its success. The old Brown Homestead, which he built and in which he made his home is on North Quinnipiac St., and occupied by Fredrick Miles Brown, his Grandson."
