He m. Lucy, dau. of Sampson and Sarah French. After the death of her husband, she lived and d. with his bro. Henry. Children: 1. Augustus, b. 1800; drowned in Conn. River near Springfield, MA 1817. He was in bathing with some other boys, but his cries and struggles failed to attract the attention of some workmen on the bridge nearby, for the reason that they had been "fooled" by similar manifestations before, and so the poor boy fell a victim to a practical joke. 2. Louisa, m. abt. 1827, William J. Whalen, Supt. of the Russian Iron Works on Lake Champlain; rem. to Milwaukee."
