a. Note:   OBIT - Hastings Gazette, 18 Mar 1916: Mrs. S.E. Tuttle died at the home of her son, E.E. Tuttle, corner of Fifteenth and Ramsey Streets, last Monday afternoon, after a protracted illness. Miss Martha A. Duffy was born in Madison, Ind., June 15th, 1828. She was married to Mr. Stiles E. Tuttle at Louisville, Ky., Sept. 19th, 1852, and after their marriage lived there for several years, when they removed to Clinton, Wis., and thence to Hastings, taking up a residence here in April, 1864. He died in December, 1897. Mrs. Tuttle bore her long illness cheerfully and with rare fortitude. At the hour of death she was surrounded by most of her children and family relatives, who had been summoned to the death bed. Mrs. Tuttle was a pioneer resident of this city [Hastings], had long been a consistent member of the Methodist Church and was greatly beloved in the community for her many Christian virtues and excellent qualities. She leaves two sons and three daughters. Edwin E. and Walter S., of Hastings, Mrs. Thomas Knighton, of Morton, and Mrs. Belle Lee and Mrs. J.D. Cox, of St. Paul. There are also eighteen grand children and eighteen great grand children. The funeral will be held from the house to-day, at half past two P.M., the Rev. L. H. Allen officiating. Interment at Lakeside.
